NACC Sets Anti-Corruption Direction for the 2024 Fiscal Year

The Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) continues to drive the prevention and suppression of corruption in the 2024 fiscal year with the goal of reducing corruption cases overall, responding to public expectations. This is coupled with the development of tools and the ITA assessment model in state agencies to be more appropriate and effective.

Niwatchai Kasemmongkol, the NACC Secretary-General and Spokesperson, revealed that the operation of prevention and suppression of corruption in the fiscal year 2024, the NACC is focused on advancing operations with integrity, fairness, professionalism, transparency, and accountability, in line with the organization's core values that all officials and personnel must strictly adhere to. The operation must focus on compliance within the timeframe stipulated by law. Every mission must drive operations to achieve the organization's goals efficiently and reduce overall corruption cases, especially by clarifying the operations in all dimensions more distinctly, including prevention, deterrence, and suppression of corruption, to respond more effectively to the expectations of the public and society.

This goes hand in hand with maintaining operational standards and fully considering fairness for all parties. The operational goals for the 2024 fiscal year have been discussed and prepared for serious implementation, which will require the establishment of an operational plan and clear objectives from the beginning of the fiscal year, and the management of tasks in all dimensions must prioritize accurate and transparent data.

At the present, the NACC has established clear and continuous oversight mechanisms for all tasks. For example, the monitoring through the NACC Operation Command Center, which conducts weekly meetings to oversee operations, has allowed for more effective management and resolution of corruption issues. The sub-committees for each task monitor operations to achieve goals, as well as promptly address any obstacles encountered.

The Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission further stated that regarding the "Operational Directions for the Fiscal Year 2024" (2023 AD), the NACC will continue to drive the "Prevent and Suppress" policy by promoting the prevention of corruption in every dimension according to Sections 32, 33, and 35, as well as Chapter 6, Sections 126 to 129, which deal with the serious prevention of conflicts of interest between personal benefits and the public interest. Additionally, the National Corruption Deterrence Center (CDC) will be propelled to vigilantly monitor, restrain, prevent, and suppress corruption to the fullest effectiveness.

Additionally, the NACC places great emphasis on pushing forward the plans and policies for "Integrity and Transparency Assessment (ITA) in the Operations of State Agencies" with governmental organizations. Particularly in the 2024 fiscal year, there will be a focus on developing tools and models used for conducting the ITA to ensure they are more appropriate and effective. It also includes fostering cooperation in assessing ITA with departments subordinate to ministries, such as the Royal Thai Police in evaluating the ITA of the Metropolitan Police stations, the Department of Provincial Administration, Ministry of Interior, in assessing ITA at the district level, and coordinating with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in evaluating the ITA of District Offices. The NACC will serve as the central organization in coordinating, collecting data, statistics, and results from the ITA operations with all state organizations, aiming to stimulate and elevate the conscience of civil servants or officials in those agencies against all forms of corruption. This effort is intended to yield tangible and sustainable efficiency that will directly influence the elevation of the country's "Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI)" in the future.
