Thaksin University in Songkhla province has launched an anti-corruption awareness-raising program to develop an anti-corruption culture, based on good governance principles, among university executives and personnel.
The program aims to promote the values of honesty and prevent conflicts of interest and the use of public resources for personal gain. Another objective is to respond to the Integrity and Transparency Assessment (ITA) program, which is part of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy – Phase 3 (2017-2021).
The Vice President of Thaksin University for Organization and Human Resources Development, Miss Saipin Vilairatana, explained that the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) had developed ITA for agencies in the public sector to use as a mechanism to fight corruption and promote integrity and transparency in their operations.
A target has been set for 80 per cent of state agencies to increase their ITA scores to at least 85 per cent in the next few years.
Miss Saipin said that Thaksin University attached great importance to ITA and adopted it to upgrade the management of the university on the basis of good governance. Results of ITA have also been used as a key indicator in the university’s strategic plan.
In the 2018 fiscal year, Thaksin University received 83.57 per cent in its ITA score. In the 2019 fiscal year, its score increased to 87.28 per cent, exceeding the target of NACC set at 85 per cent.
As for the anti-corruption awareness-raising program launched by the university, more than 500 personnel attended the training program through an online system. They were provided with more knowledge and a better understanding of the creation of an anti-corruption culture, the avoidance of conflicts of interest, and the performance of duties with honesty, ethics, and integrity.
Thaksin University is one of the first higher education institutions in southern Thailand.
