NACC Sa Kaeo finds village water supply projects functional but facing water shortages

The Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission’s Sa Kaeo Provincial Office (NACC Sa Kaeo Office), along with NACC Region 2 and the State Audit Office, inspected the village water supply system in Sae-o Subdistrict Municipality following social media reports of its malfunction and found that the system is functional but faces shortages of raw water.

Mr. Chaiwat Phunilamai, Director of the NACC office in Sa Kaeo Province, led the integrated team, together with officials from NACC Region 2 and the State Audit Office of Sa Kaeo Province, to investigate the allegations made by the Operation Watchdog Facebook page regarding the village water supply system construction project in Sae-o Subdistrict Municipality (Villages 8 and 10), Watthana Nakhon District, Sa Kaeo Province, which was found by the page to be unusable after completion.

During the inspection, the Mayor of Sae-o Subdistrict Municipality, the Subdistrict secretary, and relevant officials provided explanations and led the inspection of all three water supply projects. The findings and proposed solutions are as follows:

  1. All water supply systems are functional, but are experiencing water shortages due to accumulated drought conditions and reduced rainfall since 2021, coupled with damage to the dam at the raw water source, which forced to dam to release some water.
  2. Previously, some water pipes were located within the construction area of a highway, requiring the municipality to relocate the pipes. This work was only completed in 2025. Currently, the repair is complete and the pipes are ready to supply water if sufficient raw water is available.
  3. The project in Village 8 has had its broken pipes repaired and is functioning normally. As for the other two projects in Village 10, the structural systems are complete, but they are still facing a shortage of raw water and have not yet been handed over to the village committee for management.

The NACC Sa Kaeo and Region 2 offices jointly tested the water production system and provided recommendations to the Sae-o Subdistrict Municipality to prepare the water supply system at all points to assist the public immediately when sufficient raw water is available. They also emphasised the importance of advised the municipality to quickly explain and continuously inform the public about the drought crisis to reduce misunderstandings.
