NACC Region 8 Reports 970 Corruption Complaints, Calls for Cross-Sector Cooperation to Combat Corruption
The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) Region 8 office revealed that it has received 970 corruption complaints since the beginning of the year. The NACC has urged its officers to remain vigilant in preventing and promptly investigating these complaints. The commission is also seeking the cooperation of all sectors, including government agencies, private organizations, the media, and civil society, to help monitor and prevent corruption.
Mr. Suchart Gruaykitanon, Assistant Secretary-General of the NACC for Region 8, stated that since the beginning of 2024, the NACC Region 8 office has received 970 corruption-related complaints. Preliminary investigations have been conducted on all of these cases, and 247 cases have been completed. Additionally, 340 cases have progressed to the inquiry stage, with 59 cases awaiting submission to the NACC board for further action. The NACC views these complaints as crucial leads in identifying and investigating corrupt practices by government officials.
To effectively address these issues, the NACC emphasizes the need for integration with all sectors, including government agencies, private entities, civil society, and the media. Particularly, the media plays a vital role in disseminating anti-corruption information to the public, fostering a societal culture that does not tolerate corruption. This helps the public distinguish between personal and public interests and encourages whistleblowing when corruption is observed.
The NACC encourages citizens to act as watchdogs in monitoring public sector corruption. If state officials are found engaging in corrupt practices, reports can be made to the NACC through eight channels:
The NACC will thoroughly investigate all complaints and proceed according to legal processes, ensuring that the identity of the complainants and witnesses is kept confidential.
